Next summer, NPAC will bring you Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella! Auditions will be on or around the weekend of Memorial Day 2020—We will post audition details as they become available. Here’s a few words for auditioners about the production from Scott Lilly, our director:
“The story takes place in a world reminiscent of 1920’s Paris, France—the country in which the story of Cinderella originated, and a time in history where female empowerment and self-made idealism were at a peak. With a deceptively simple storyline, CINDERELLA contains several themes and morals which we will explore. I’m choosing to focus on the theme of vanity versus recognizing one’s inner beauty and potential. Using the imagery of a stage full of empty mirror frames, the audience is encouraged to ask themselves: What does one see when one looks in the mirror? What do the Stepmother and Stepsisters see? What does Cinderella see? What do they—the audience—see? It is my hope that our audiences will leave the show with a new consideration for how we see and treat ourselves—and each other.”
Scott M. Lilly (dir.)
